Trinidad & Tobago Prostate Brachytherapy Ltd. is a locally owned and operated company offering an advanced treatment for Prostate Cancer to the men of Trinidad and Tobago. Founded in 2001, as part of an international American corporation, Syncor Overseas Ltd, the operations were eventually transferred in 2003 to T.T.P.B. Ltd. headed by dynamic Medical Physicist, Christopher Camacho who was the former Country Manager for Syncor Overseas Limited.

In the initial stages of implementing the Prostate Brachytherapy Programme, a local team of technical and medical experts were assembled and trained at the Chicago Prostate Cancer Center to perform this revolutionary procedure. This hands-on training for the team was provided by Dr. Thomas G. Shanahan, a radiation oncologist specialising in prostate brachytherapy. He was a clinical associate professor in Urology and Radiation Oncology, a recipient of "The Best Doctors in America" award and had mentored the first prostate implants in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Japan.

The team performed its first prostate brachytherapy procedure in April 2001 under the guidance of Dr. Shanahan. To date, the company has performed approximately six hundred and fifty (650) radioactive seed implants at medical facilities across the country with excellent technical and clinical results. T.T.P.B. Ltd. initially presented a paper based on results at the Caribbean Health Research Council's 49th Annual Scientific Meeting and subsequently at multiple TTMA Medical Research Conference meetings as well as several meetings of the Caribbean Urological Association.

T.T.P.B. Ltd. strives to maintain the highest level of patient care, both physical and psychological. Over the years the company has held follow-up workshops for its team members, to provide prostate brachytherapy updates and overview. T.T.P.B. has also undertaken the responsibility of increasing the level of public awareness about prostate cancer and the importance of being tested and early detection, throughout Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad & Tobago Prostate Brachytherapy Ltd. remains a company which is dedicated to offering the best in Prostate Brachytherapy to Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean so as to give our patients another world class option in the treatment of Prostate cancer.

testimonials

When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020, I talked to friends who had dealt with the disease and had undergone different procedures.

I was referred to Dr. L.R. Sawh, who recommended brachytherapy and referred me to Trinidad and Tobago Prostate Brachytherapy (TTPB).

Other technologies that treat prostate cancer include radical prostatectomy, an operation to remove the prostate gland; external beam radiation therapy, which involves sending radiation from many directions over a period of weeks; and hormone therapy.

This was such an emotional period of my life, but when I found out that I qualify for brachytherapy it just provided me with so much hope.

I met up with the specialist from TTPB, Ms. Lisa Affonso who guided me through the whole process.

I underwent the procedure with little to no side effects, continuing my life as normal, and grateful to say that after three months my PSA has dropped to normal after the procedure.

I am so grateful to have been in the position to meet up with an excellent urologist and referred to an excellent brachytherapy unit as the TTPB.

A blessing in Disguise
